Event: Third Annual Regional Social Forum, London, ON, June 21-24

The Regional Social Forum provides an open meeting space for the public as well as community groups and organizations open to exploring and committed to creating a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. Inspired by the World Social Forum and its parallel Intercontinental Youth Camp, the RSF hopes to serve as a truly democratic framework for people-centred participation. We strive to nourish the hope that our world can be organized in far more equitable, democratic, and ecologically sustainable ways than it is now. We focus on how alternatives can and are being put into practice. The RSF endeavours, as well, to empower civil society. Workshops facilitators range from numerous local community leaders to Eduardo Sousa of the Council of Canadians (The Council is a co-sponsor of this year’s forum), Dawn Paley of Mining Watch, and Aklilu Wendafarew of the Solidarity Committee for Ethiopian Political Prisoners, to name just a few. Dynamic roundtable discussions will take place both on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Documentary screenings, NGO display booths, and more speakers and musicians are expected over the weekend.
